A plain-English guide for small business · Conroe & Greater Houston, Texas

AI, minus the hype.

Most of what you've heard about AI is either a sales pitch or a scare story. This page is neither. It's what actually works for a small shop, what it honestly costs, and how to set most of it up yourself. Free, no email required.

First, the plain truth

Three things nobody selling AI will tell you.

AI won't run your shop

The judgment, the craft, and the customers stay yours. What AI does well is the typing, sorting, answering, and reminding that eats your evenings.

You probably don't need anything custom

Off-the-shelf tools cover 90 percent of the wins for under $100 a month, total. Those $300-a-month all-in-one platforms mostly bundle $30 tools with a markup and a contract. Buy the $30 tools.

Your phone is the biggest leak

A missed call usually costs more than any software will ever save you. Fix the phone before you touch anything fancy.

The three levers

A tool earns its keep three ways. Period.

Use this on every vendor who calls you, including us. If they can't tell you which lever a tool pulls, and roughly by how much, hang up.

Time back

Does it return hours to you and your crew? Retyping, chasing calls, kitchen-table paperwork. If you can't name the hours, it isn't pulling this lever.

Better quality

Does it drop fewer balls? Every call answered, every quote followed up, every customer heard. Same work you already do, done cleaner and more consistently.

More profit

Does it show up in dollars? Faster quotes win more jobs. Answered calls stop walking to competitors. If nobody can show you the math, be suspicious.

Write those three down. They're the whole test, and they work on every pitch you'll ever hear, in any industry, forever.

The short list

Five tools worth knowing, and how to try them yourself.

Every one is off the shelf, cheap, and works without an IT department. Start with your worst leak, get one tool working, then add the next.

The list

  1. Missed-call text-back

A customer who hits your voicemail is usually dialing your competitor next. A text-back service answers them in seconds, every time. Around $30 a month.

Try it yourself: ask your current phone provider first. Many business lines already include text-back or voicemail-to-text for free, and most owners have never checked.

  2. Online booking

Let customers grab a time slot straight from your Google page at 9 pm. Free to start, up to about $12 a month.

Try it yourself: Square Appointments and Calendly both have free plans. Set one up, then put the link in your Google Business profile and your voicemail greeting.

  3. Review requests

A text after every finished job asking for a Google review. Steady stars without begging anybody. Roughly $20 to $50 a month for the automated version.

Try it yourself: the zero-dollar version works today. Save your Google review link as a text shortcut on your phone and send it after every job. The paid tools just automate that habit.

  4. An AI assistant

Drafts quotes, emails, and job descriptions in your voice, and answers the questions you'd rather not dig through Google for. About $20 a month.

Try it yourself: open ChatGPT or Claude, paste in a customer email, and ask for a reply in your voice. That one trick saves most owners an hour a week, starting now.

  5. Email cleanup

Sorts the inbox so quotes and invoices never drown under junk mail. About $7 a month.

Try it yourself: SaneBox works with the email you already have. Set it up once in about ten minutes and forget it exists. That's the point.

That's the whole list, and it's yours. No email gate, no catch. Most shops can run everything above for less than one service call a month.

The one thing we sell

Want this guide mapped to your shop?

That's the AI Tools Assessment: a 45-minute sit-down at your shop, a report written about your business specifically, and a walkthrough call. $999 flat, guaranteed in writing. We take no commissions from any tool we recommend, and every account we set up is yours. If the free guide is all you ever need from us, we're genuinely glad it helped.

Who wrote this?

I'm Jason Brannon. I've spent more than ten years in the service industry, in supervisor and manager roles, with a construction company and a hospitality company. Different industries, same week: crews to schedule, customers to call back, paperwork that follows you home, and a phone that does not care what time it is.

I didn't learn AI from a weekend course. I learned it by building systems that gave me my own hours back, in a real operation with real customers. And my family runs a trades business, so I know what a slammed front office looks like from both sides of the counter.

Brannon Solutions is me bringing that home to the shops of Conroe and Greater Houston. In person, in plain English, and the guide above is free because most of it should be.
